Millions Living with Severe Vision Impairment

The Vision Council, a nonprofit trade organization focused on ophthalmological services and products, reports that more than 39 million Americans are currently living with a severe vision impairment. Of those, the council reports, only 20 percent are utilizing services that could make daily activities less strenuous. The reason for this small percentage? A lack of awareness about the importance of treating or controlling vision disorders such as:

  • Macular degeneration
  • Glaucoma
  • Cataracts
  • Diabetic retinopathy

At Northeastern Eye Institute, our ophthalmologists strongly encourage patients over the age of 65 to make yearly eye exams part of their routine healthcare. These exams allow our NEPA eye doctors to detect early signs of vision stealing disorders and to begin working with you on a plan that can help protect your vision into the future.

Not all vision impairments can be treated, but most can be managed through lifestyle changes and various optical services. We are here to work closely with you through this process, helping ensure optimal vision at every stage of life.

To schedule your next eye exam with one of our NEPA ophthalmologists, please contact Northeastern Eye Institute today. We have offices throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.
