Not everyone is a great candidate for vision correction surgery, and the medical team at the Northeastern Eye Institute will work diligently to assess whether or not you’d be a good candidate to have surgery to correct your vision.
In general, good candidates for laser vision correction should:
- Be at least 18 years of age or older
- Have stable vision for a year prior to the surgery
- Be free of certain diseases of the cornea and retina
- Be in good general health

The primary objective of our consultation is to determine whether you are a candidate for laser vision correction, and if you are a good candidate, we will need to determine which procedure is best for your specific vision needs. And, keep in mind that even if you are not a great candidate for laser vision correction surgery today does not mean you never will be. The technology for vision correction is continually being enhanced enabling more difficult prescriptions to qualify for laser surgery. Some patients, unfortunately, will never be candidates.
