What Can I Expect During an Eye Exam?

An eye exam is an essential checkup that ensures your eyes are healthy and your vision is clear. During the exam, your eye doctor will perform various tests, including:

The type of testing performed will depend on your vision and any eye conditions you have or are at risk of developing. The exam usually takes thirty minutes to an hour, and your eye doctor will answer any questions you have and let you know if you need glasses or contacts.

How Often Should I Schedule an Eye Exam?

Regular eye exams are crucial for healthy vision. How often you need to see your eye doctor will depend on a variety of factors including your age, eye health and family history of eye conditions. Adults under 60 can typically wait two years between exams if there are no issues. Adults over 60 should have an annual exam since they are more likely to develop eye conditions. If you wear glasses or contacts, you'll need to get checked more frequently to ensure the prescription's accuracy. Your eye doctor at Northeastern Eye Institute can determine the best exam schedule for your eyes and overall health.
