Cataract surgery is a scary thought for most patients but, with the advanced developments in both the surgical procedure and the options in cataract replacement lenses, it has become an “opportunity” for patients to improve their function and quality of vision. Many patients now have the choice to be less dependent on and, in many cases, free from glasses or contact lenses after cataract surgery. In just one step, conditions such as “astigmatism” (uneven curvature of the cornea) and “presbyopia” (losing the ability to focus at near) can be corrected at the same time the cataract is removed. A Toric...

On Thursday, two hours before my LASIK surgery was about to begin I was started to feel a little more nervous than I had all day. I had tried to remain as normal as possible so that I wouldn't work myself into a tizzy over the thought of the surgery to come. I went to class in the morning and came into work for a typical afternoon, not breaking my normal daily routine. However, let me tell you that may have been the longest afternoon ever! I was trying to keep as busy as I possibly could, but it felt like the clock just moved in slow motion. Clearly, I was getting nervous, which I came to be told is totally normal...if I wasn't nervous,...

I'm about to start my pre-surgery procedure and I was thinking that you may be wondering why I finally decided to have lasik done on my eyes. There are many reasons I will tell you about later, but my number one reason behind my decision to finally go through with having lasik is my extreme fear of having permanent damage to my eyes and uncorrectable vision loss associated to contact lens misuse and over wear. I don't like to admit it but I have a history of sleeping with my contact lenses still in my eyes. When I was an undergraduate, I would sleep in the same pair of lenses day after day without taking them out. I would put a drop or...

The surgery went fantastic! I'm a little blurry, but NO PAIN what so ever! I have to lay on the dark with my eyes closed now and use my drops every half an hour. I am thee happiest girl right now! Oh my gosh, I can't believe today I'll finally be having my LASIK procedure! I've been so excited the past two days that I've been falling asleep thinking about the procedure and all the things I'll be able to do afterwards and then dreaming about them! I actually had a dream last night that I was cliff diving and once I was actually underwater I could see all aquatic life in bright, high definition, colors! I wasn't even wearing any type of goggles and never needed to come up for air, but I was swimming about with my eyes open underwater in and out of caves and underneath boats, just taking in all the beautiful tropical fish and their...

Alright so after I had my contact lenses out for two entirely long weeks, it was time to have my LASIK evaluation to find out if I am an eligible candidate for LASIK or any other type of refractive surgery. WARNING: this post is going to be lengthy, but I ensure you it is well worth the read since I have included in it all of the details of my LASIK evaluation. I am so tremendously excited! I can't believe that in just 2 days I'll be under the laser with an entire room full of people watching my surgery!! :D The evaluation is an extremely thorough eye exam prior to having any corrective eye surgery. It takes quite some time because many...

Yesterday I was talking with my co-worker, Alicia, and she brought up a great point; what am I going to do with my glasses once I have my lasik procedure done? Well luckily the optical here at Northeaster Eye Institute has already thought of that. They volunteer with the South Scranton Lions Club and their Recycle for Sight program. This is an international program where volunteers collect used eye glasses and deliver them to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers, where they are cleaned, sorted by prescription strength and packaged. The glasses are then distributed to people in need, mostly in developing countries where there is a...

So now that I have decided to follow through with having the lasik procedure, I have to be evaluated to see if I am even a candidate. This Friday, February 15th, I'm going to have my evaluation by Dr. Chris and I will post every detail of what goes on and what he tells me for you read. It is going to be so neat and different to be on the patient side of the evaluation! Working at Northeastern Eye Institiute, I do some of the topographic mapping and checking visual aquities but what the technicians and doctors do afterward is somewhat of a mystery to me!

I do know that one important factor when determining if someone is a lasik...

Yesterday I was catching up with my friend, Jim who actually had lasik surgery done at NEI by Dr. Christopher S. Jordan, the very same surgeon who will be performing my procedure. As expected, he was over the moon about his experience. He told me, it was one of the best decisions he’s ever made. Now he sees better than he ever could before with glasses or contacts. Jim is a correctional officer and lasik has provided him the ability to see 100% of the time. It has eliminated the daily unnecessary stress of not being able to see in the time of emergency. He no longer has to worry about his glasses getting knocked off of his face or a...

Hello my name is Rose. I'm an ophthalmic assistant for doctor Christopher Jordan, M.D.,  here at Northeastern Eye Institute. I'd like to include you in a fantastically exciting upcoming experience in my life. I've been working here for almost two years and everyday I hear countless patient testimonials stating how their lasik procedure has changed their life; no more hassle from glasses or contact lens wear! I personally have been wearing glasses and contact lenses since I was a little girl in elementary school and to be able to see with crystal clear vision from the minute my eyes open in the morning is completely unimaginable! I've...
